Nicki Minaj Covers Teen Vogue

Rapper-Nicki Minaj may still be dreaming to grab the all important Vogue cover but that has not stopped her from pulling a super girly on the cover of the June/July issue of Teen Vogue.

Every Vogue, is a vogue…right?

In the magazine, she talks about it why she refuses to fake the funk in the music industry, her parents dysfunctional relationship and how it affected her childhood among other interesting things…

Check out excerpts from her interview with Vogue

On why she refuses to fake the funk
People treat this business like it’s high school. It can absolutely feel like one big popularity contest, and you know what? I can’t be bothered. I can’t allow myself to play ridiculous games with grown adults in the industry. I can’t be nice to someone just because they’re hot right now. I can’t do it.

On how her parents dysfunctional relationship affected her
Every time my parents fought, my mother would have us move and I would have to go to a new school, which meant I’d have to face the task of making new friends. I dreaded it. I had butterflies in my stomach each time: Are people going to like or hate me? … Sometimes there’d be a fight, sometimes not. I let people know I wasn’t going to be pushed around.

On why she no longer pays attention to the critics
I used to read the bad things people said about me, then I asked myself, ‘Why am I reading that when I have millions of people saying great things?’ You cannot give negativity power. I tell teens, if you’re having a problem, there’s nothing wrong with deleting your social media. If people keep taunting you and you keep reading it, it’s poison.

Nia Long Covers JET Magazine, Talks About New Movie Role, Career & Her 3 Year Relationship With Ime Udoka

Nia Long Covers JET Magazine

Nia Long, 42, is the cover girl woman of next month’s issue of JET Magazine which will be on sale from 18th March, 2013.

Inside the magazine, Nia Long talks about realities of being an actress, parenting and shares more details about the upcoming sequel to the 1999 cult movie, The Best Man.

She also talked about her 3 year relationship with former pro-basketball player Ime Udoka.

Check excerpts from her interview with JET below

JET:  Everyone’s buzzing about you reprising the role of Jordan in The Best Man Holiday (out November 15). The original was definitely a classic film— but it’s been almost 15 years. Why do a sequel now?

We made magic together— so many people say that to me. And because I love the cast. The film’s director, Malcolm Lee, has been talking about it for some time and finally announced his plan during a recent cast reunion dinner.

JET: Any details you can dish on the movie?

Well, we’re not shooting until late April in Toronto so I can’t say much, but everybody is really excited to revisit our stories and find out what happens next. Where is Jordan now? Did she get married? Did she break up a relationship? It’s like reading a great book; you want to see what the next chapter is.

JET: You’ve been part of several iconic flicks, like Boyz n the Hood and Love Jones, but we hear that acting wasn’t always your dream career?

I wanted to be a pediatrician. One of the most life-changing challenges I experienced growing up was realizing that there simply wasn’t enough money for me to go to college. So I decided to focus on working. I promised that I’d give myself one year from the day I graduated from high school to make moves in the business. I was acting since I was 15, and I really wanted to help my mom, who was struggling.

JET: But your current career path isn’t necessarily the most stable…

That’s very true. Actors only have job security from the time we’re on set until they say cut. But, deep down inside I knew it would work out for me. Luckily, I was also naive. What’s the saying? Ignorance is bliss. I had a wonderful acting coach who didn’t focus on fail-ure, only working.

JET: Speaking of success, you’ve been in a relationship with former pro-basketball player Ime Udoka for almost three years. How do you make it work… especially now that he lives in another state?

Ime and I are very much a family. We’re both committed to being good to each other and being great parents. He operates on faith, and we share that. If not, it would be difficult to maintain with him working as a coach in San Antonio. The challenge is the times when I’m exhausted and here with the kids by myself. I have homework, bath time, dinner, laundry and all the other things that every mother has to do because, in essence, I’m physically a part-time single mom.

Nicki Minaj Covers ELLE Magazine, April 2013 Issue…

Elle Magazine2

Nicki Minaj is celebrating and displaying her newly toned body. She has covered April’s 2013 issue of Elle Magazine.

Inside the magazine which will hit the stands on 18th March, she talked about how she felt so vulnerable in front of the cameras once she ditched the bold colors, patterned leggings and crazy wigs, lashes and make up.

She also talked about being bullied as a child and her plans to take over the world, while continuing to remind the ladies to treat themselves like a boss.

On her toned-down look
When I saw myself with barely any makeup at, it was such a… like, I’m so, so attached to my pink lipstick, it’s hard. I feel that it’s become a part of me. To go in front of the camera, without pink lips or big ol’ crazy lashes— you know, nothing— I felt naked. It was scary! So this photoshoot was a real accomplishment in my eyes.

On being bullied during her childhood
I went through a lot of bullying early on. Girls made my life a living hell. We had come to America from a different country. My brother and I had accents. It was very tough. So I’ve always put up this wall— it was a self-defense mechanism growing up— because I was almost expecting people to attack me. And I still have it. It’s sad.

Her Advice to the Ladies to Gain Respect
My advice to women in general: Even if you’re doing a nine-to-five job, treat yourself like a boss. Not arrogant, but be sure of what you want— and don’t allow people to run anything for you without your knowledge. You want everyone to know, Okay, I can’t play games with her. I have to do right by this woman. That’s what it’s all about.

Keyshia Cole Covers Rolling Out Magazine, Talks About Her Marriage To NBA Star Daniel Gibson, Her Upcoming Album, ETC

Singer Keyshia Cole has covered Rolling Out Magazine and during a sit down interview with the magazine, she opened up about her relationship with her NBA star husband-Daniel Gibson and also her relationship with her mother and sisters.

She also talked about her upcoming album and others…

Check out excerpts from the interview below

RO: The title of your album, Woman to Woman, what’s the meaning behind it?
KEYSHIA COLE: It’s for women who have been through similar situations and can relate to me. It’s for all women. It’s also a personal statement. It has been 10 years since I signed to Intersope. I became a woman before everyone’s eyes. The [photo composite] illustration on the cover was created because some of the songs aren’t exactly about me, but they are stories that a lot of women can relate to.

The last album didn’t do as well as your other work. Why didn’t it resonate with fans?
I was pregnant. I was going through a lot with my family at the time. Some of the songs were about them. It was an extremely emotional time and it reflected on the album. When you’re pregnant, you’re 10 times more emotional about everything. There was just a lot going on back then.

During that time, you also fell in love. Do you remember the day you realized Daniel was the one?
I thought he was beautiful the first time we met. We had been talking for months before we physically met each other. We had ups and downs in our relationship, and we grew from it. When you make a commitment to marriage, you have to be serious about it. You can love the person you are with, but you have to be sure that you’re ready to make that commitment. This is not only for when times are good — marriage is for the remainder of our lives. [It’s for] building a life and making the best life for your children.

Are there any couples in entertainment you admire for being examples of a strong family?
I respect Beyoncé and Jay-Z, because I know how hard it can be to stay in love in this business. In the beginning, it appeared as if Jay-Z knew Beyoncé had work to do. I respect that. You can’t go into a relationship trying to change someone. You have to grow with that person and go through everything with them. That’s one thing that I noticed and I respect about them. Of course, I’m not with them every day, but that’s what I see from the outside looking in.”

Alicia Keys Covers JET Magazine, Talks About ‘Homewrecker’ Allegations & Keeping Her Love Strong

Since the marriage between Alicia Keys and Swizz Beatz, I am sure there is no single day she has not been called a homewrecker…

After allegations by Swizz Beatz’s ex-wife that her husband stepped out of their marriage, Alicia has on several platforms been attacked with the homewrecker question…

Covering the latest issue of JET Magazine which hits stands next week, she spoke about being a homewrecker…She said that she chose not to address that past situation because, “there’s no need to fight what’s not true”.

[They] were apart for some time before we ever got together…that doesn’t matter to those who take pleasure in trying to knock others down…there’s no need to fight what’s not true…

She also spoke about how strong their love is as a couple…

I’d never met a person where I could be fully myself…Swizz and I live in each other’s shadow. So we can occupy the same space and there is nothing but equality. There’s something really powerful about that.

Chris Brown Brings Old School To The Cover Of The November Issue Of Prestige Magazine

Chris Brown has broken his own ‘No Interview in 2012′ promise by sitting down with Hong Kong’s Prestige Magazine.

In an interview with Prestige, Chris Brown talked about his life, beliefs and career…

Check excerpts from the interview below

Who He Is & What He Stands For:

As a 23-year-old young entertainer, I want the world to see my art and hopefully be inspired by it, promote positivity with what I do now – with painting, with fashion, with directing, with creativity as far as videos and cinema. I want to have people admire that and hopefully have people follow in my footsteps.

On Crossing Genres:

Definitely with Fortune that’s the direction I wanted to go, but even with the F.A.M.E. album. What I wanted to do was not set the bar with a certain kind of style. I didn’t want people to say. “He’s just R&B.” Yes, I will sing an R&B song. But then I’ll do a pop song, then I’ll do a song with a country kind of feel, a reggae feel. I always want to be eclectic with my music. I don’t think music has a race. I think music has a soul and it’s just a feeling. What evokes the set of emotions from you is what I try to bring out…whatever flows, whatever I feel, I just write.

What Fans Should Know About Him:

Just how involved I am with everything. I think a lot of people, a lot of artists, they get the glamour and glitz and everything else is already set for them. You see it and you say, “Oh man, it’s perfect.” But everything is already written. For me, it’s all just straight from thin air. I hear a song [claps his hands] – that’s my concept. When you hear my records, it’s really me writing. It’s really my emotions. It’s really me behind the cameras, directing those videos. It’s me making the decision on what singles we put out. Being the CEO.

A real businessman at 23. That’s what I want to show my audience. The generation that we’re in – we’re a lazy generation. The kids in my generation are not as hyper. The work ethic isn’t there. The attention span is short. But I think if they can see me do it at 23 and have all this stuff going on – and still have fun while I’m doing it – who’s to say they can’t?
